PITCH ELEMENTS

1) High and Low sounds
2) Repetition
3) Steps - 2nds
4) Skips - 3rds
5) Skip-plus-ones - 4ths
6) Jumps - 5ths
7) The ascending and descending Major scale
8) The Major Triad in Root Position in block and broken forms.

 

RHYTHM ELEMENTS

1) Whole, Half and Quarter notes
2) 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time
3) The Dotted Half Note
4) Whole, Half and Quarter Rests
5) A shorthand system by which to transcribe the above timing elements quickly and easily. This is extremely useful for transcription questions in examinations, as it means you can capture and write out the rhythmic pattern in three hearings.

 

MELODY ELEMENTS

1) Melodic fragments containing three notes.
2) Melodic fragments containing four notes.
3) In the final lesson - a two-bar melody combining Rhythm and Pitch.
